Flora & Fauna

About 70% of Malaysia consists of Tropical Rainforests. Many different species of plant life that can be found in Malaysia include the camphor, ebony, sandalwood, teak and many other varieties of palm trees abound. The typical fauna found in the forests are the seladang (Malaysian Bison) which weighs about a ton and is the largest wild ox in the world. Other species found include deer, wild pigs, tree shrews, honey bears, monkeys and many more. The Malaysian forests house an immense range of insects, and some 508 breeding species of birds can be found.

On Sabah and Sarawak, lowland forests contain 400 species of hardwoods and semi-hardwoods attracting small mammals and birds. As the altitude increases you are bound to see more herbaceous plants, buttercups, violets and valerian.

You will also be a witness to many different species of butterflies and brilliantly coloured birds of paradise and many other insect and bird species that inhabit both the states. Malaysia is truly rich when it comes to Flora and Fauna, a truly marvellous wonder to see.
