Hill Stations
A hill station is a term commonly used for a town usually at somewhat higher elevations. The term has been used particularly throughout colonial Asia where towns have been founded by European colonial rulers as a refuge from the heat.
Malaysia has quite a few popular hill stations which offer a cool refreshing getaway from the hot and humid city. Some of the well known retreats are Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands, and Penang Hill.
These escapes offer activities such as hikes through tea plantations or mountain trails. Or in Genting Highland’s case you’ll find a casino holiday complete with a wild adventure theme park.
As long as you’re looking for a bit of fresh air a hill station retreat is the one for you.

In general I find your magazine excellent and most of the articles are also of high quality. However, in this case I need to take exception with the article ‘Head for the Hills’ written by David Bowden (The Expat, March issue pg 32-33).
His experience is very different from mine. I stayed at Bukit Fraser at the Ye Old Smokehouse in January 2008 with my husband, two daughters and spouses. We were, however, very disappointed. (Please note that I have had some wonderful holidays / experiences here but that this was unfortunately not one of them). Having said that, please note that Bukit Fraser is nonetheless a great place to escape KL. Life is about diversity and differences of opinion. Hence I am voicing my strongly felt difference.
