Sailing is a sport that is slowly expanding throughout Malaysia. There are now a number of marinas and yacht clubs where one can sail and let the tropical breeze take you to new and exciting destinations.

Recreational sailing in Malaysia is an affordable and a wonderful way for visitors to discover Malaysia’s islands and extensive coastline. For those who like to sail the open waters for several days, cruise liners pull into several Malaysian ports and islands.


There are several major sailing events that highlight Malaysia as an exciting boating destination. These include the Raja Muda International Regatta, the Asean Regatta and the Royal Langkawi International Regatta.

Langkawi is a popular destination to sail the waters of the Andaman Sea, but there are many other locations such as Port Dickson, Penang, and Lumut on the West Coast. East Malaysia is another favourite with areas such as Kota Kinabalu’s Sutera Harbour, Sandakan, Kudat, Labuan and more.
