This issue of Senses of Malaysia explores some of the
very best that life can offer in Kuala Lumpur, a worldclass
city of the twenty first century. By land, sea and
air, we take you on a magnificent tour, a “Lap of Luxury”,
enjoying some of the finest products and services
available in Malaysia’s capital. Nothing more literally represents the height of luxury than flying in a
business jet. Being seated in beautiful leather seats, either in a luxurious
armchair or spread out on a couch, surrounded by beautiful wood trim
and gold plated fixtures, while cruising at a ceiling of 40,000 feet at
a speed of nearly 500 KTAS (Knots True Air Speed) or 500 mph, is an
experience nearly out of this world.
From such great heights landing can be a letdown, but the Skypark Business Aviation
Centre (BAC) is the perfect solution. The BAC is located within the confines of Skypark
Terminal which was formerly known as Terminal 3 of the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah
International Airport, Subang that has recently undergone a RM42 million renovation
and refurbishment. The BAC has since been reinvented as a corporate and business jet
destination for Malaysia and the region. This newly revamped, sleek and sophisticated
facility, conveniently located a mere half an hour from Kuala Lumpur, now offers stateof-
the-art facilities and world-class services. It caters to local and international visitors,
high-net-worth individuals, global corporations and high value investors. It takes something very special to replace the luxury and serenity of a private jet
as a mode of transport. But Mercedes-Benz, celebrating 125 years of innovation,
has just the answer in the exquisite form of its S500 L, which has now been
complimented by a state of the art BlueDIRECT bi-turbo power unit generating 435
Horsepower with a consumption of only 9.3 l/100km.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has always been an icon of style and luxury. Its unmistakable
design combines elegance and effortless superiority in their purest form. The S-class sedans
have featured many technological innovations over the years. The new S-Class upholds this
tradition right down to the smallest detail. “This car was the first with airbags, anti-lock
brakes and air suspension,” notes Roland Folger, President & CEO of Mercedes Malaysia.
The S500 L is the pinnacle of the executive transports offered by Mercedes. Its
unmistakable front end, distinctive side line and muscular tail end appear to be cast from
a single mould. The S-Class embodies exclusivity on four wheels.
What better way is there is to relax than with a private cruise on
board a luxury motor yacht? The change of pace and informal
environment on a yacht brings people together and gets them
talking while enjoying themselves in unparalleled luxury.
Sabrina, a luxury motor yacht, is an elegant, stately vessel with a relaxing ambience.
Sabrina offers sumptuous elegance and comfort that will take your mind beyond the
ordinary. With well-appointed interiors and glorious outdoor areas, this corporate
charter yacht can accommodate up to 15 guests for a day cruise in its spacious
social areas ideal for entertaining and featuring a massive upper deck which affords
spectacular panoramic views.
For over 130 years, van Laack shirts have exemplified tailor-made excellence.
Heinrich van Laack established van Laack in 1881
with two partners. He had a simple but bold vision: to
manufacture the most luxurious shirts in the world. This luxury is
manifest in the smallest of details and expresses the personality of
the wearer. In the “golden twenties” van Laack became one of the
first brand-name products in the fashion industry with a classic logo
and the slogan “van Laack – the royal shirt”. In 1972, the company
unveiled its first van Laack collection for ladies.
Since 1837, Tiffany & Co has been one of the world’s premier jewellers and
has been at the forefront of the world’s greatest design movements. Its
Japanese silver won Tiffany & Co the highest honours at the 1878 Paris World
Exposition and at the turn of the twentieth century, Louis Comfort Tiffany
emerged as an Art Nouveau leader.
From glamorous, geometric Art Deco pieces and bold cocktail-style creations to the
nature-inspired works of Jean Schlumberger and Elsa Peretti, Tiffany & Co has broken new
ground time and again with exceptional designs that remain relevant today.
Originally the residence of the British representative in the colony of Malaya
(as it was known before its independence), the house sits high on a hill
overlooking the lush gardens and the city beyond. Offering only five suites
to privileged guests, massive rooms and the most superb and elegant
appointments await those fortunate enough to stay there.
Afternoon tea in the drawing room is an indulgence that should not be missed with
fresh jam, cream and scones along with the finest teas. There are actually two mansions
on the hilltop, the first being Carcosa, built in 1897 as the official residence of Sir Frank
Swettenham. It served as the official residence until the Japanese invasion of Malaya in
1941. The second house, Seri Negara, was originally known as the Governors House when
opened in 1913 and served as the guest house to Carcosa. Later known as King’s House, it
was renamed Istana Tetamu (Guest’s Palace) in 1957 following independence. In 1989, it
was combined with Carcosa to form a hotel Carcosa Seri Negara.
Luxury can also be embodied in the quiet freedom of living in a strategically
located, lavish home, set within a backdrop of lush greenery, gently rolling
slopes and a serene lake. The residential development of Jade Hills provides
such a paradisiacal environment.
The vision in creating this immaculately landscaped, eco-friendly development is simple.
To deliver a seamless integration of nature and design, accommodating the land’s organic
contours and preserving the existing ecosystem. At BASELWORLD 2011, Rolex was pleased to unveil five new models
in its famous OYSTER collection. Each, in its own way, embodies
the brand’s perpetual quest for excellence.
The common theme of these new pieces is the aspiration of Rolex wearers
to constantly push boundaries, to continually challenge themselves. Be it
at sea, in motor racing, on expeditions, in the arts or at pivotal moments
in life, wherever performance, elegance and precision are the order of the
day, Rolex watches are the faithful companions of passionate achievers and
professionals. |
