KL Samrah Festival 2008

The KL Samrah Festival 2008, held to welcome the arrival of Middle Eastern tourists to Malaysia, will take place on the weekend nights of 1-2 August and 8-9 August, showcasing Arabian music and concerts around Bintang Walk.

MTV Asia Awards (MAA) 2008

The highly anticipated MTV Asia Awards (MAA) 2008 is back for the sixth year running, celebrating and paying tribute to regional and international music talents. Hosted by Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars, the awards show will be held for the first time at the Arena of Stars in Genting – City of Entertainment. Second Malaysia International Fireworks Competition
15 August
Putrajaya skies will be lit up in an exciting and colourful display of fireworks and pyrotechnics as world-class fireworks teams from around the world compete for the 'Golden Merdeka Trophy' in the 2nd Malaysia International Fireworks Competition. For more than 25 minutes on each competitive evening, the maestros of the night will awe spectators with their unique presentations that will cumulate in a spectacular finale in conjunction with the country’s Independence Day on 31 August. Malaysia International Travel Mart Travel Fair

International Borneo Kites Festival 2008

Organised since 2005, the International Borneo Kites Festival 2008 will be held from 16 – 24 August at the Old Airport Compound, Bintulu, Sarawak, featuring a multitude of kites in various forms and colours. Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon 2008

Known worldwide as “The World's Toughest Mountain Race”, professional athletes from all over the world participate in the TM 22nd Mt. Merdeka Millennium Endurance Competition
28 August
The ninth edition of the Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) competition, will see teams of three putting their skills, endurance, team management and their machines to the limit in this 12-hour race at the Sepang International Circuit on 28 –

Ramadhan
1 September
Malaysian Muslims will begin the Ramadhan month, when they concentrate on spiritual reflection, prayer, doing good deeds and spending time with family and friends. Muslims will fast for a whole month to remind them of the suffering of the poor, and to thank God for their blessings. Muslims will gather every evening to break fast, and it is quite common for non-Muslims to join their Muslim friends for the evening meal. The Ramadhan month ends on 30 September and Hari Raya Aidilfitri will be celebrated the morning after.

51st Merdeka Tea Reception

Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge
8 September
Royal Pahang Billfish International Challenge is a popular annual offshore ‘catch and release’ fishing competition held near the Rompin waters with mostly international participants. Held on 8 – 10 September, the event was initiated in 2004 to take advantage of the migration season of billfishes such as the marlin and sailfish as they migrate from the northern hemisphere on their way to Australia.

Mooncake Festival
13 September
Mooncake Festival or Mid-Autumn Festival is a celebration of peace and prosperity, celebrated by Chinese around the world on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. Sibu, Sarawak, celebrates the festival at Sundai Bidut, with the hanging of lanterns and sampling of various mooncakes.

Sabah’s Birthday of their Head of State
16 September
Although Malaysia celebrates its independence on 31 August, The Federation of Malaysia was only formed on 16 September 1963 when Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaya. It is a public holiday in Sabah as they celebrate the birthday of their Head-of-State, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah. Many activities will be held in Sabah on this day.

Miri International Beads Exhibition
26 September
The Miri International Beads Exhibition will be held at the Miri Handicraft Centre on 26 – 30 September, featuring intricate beadwork handmade and designed by craftsmen and women from various ethnic groups. Marvel at the costumes, baby carriers, ladies bags and sun hats that are alive with ornately traced designs in glowing, primary colours. World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day 2008 was established to create awareness on the importance of tourism to the international community and its effects on the social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.
